تسجيل الأحوال المدنية والإحصاءات الحيوية
إن نظم تسجيل الأحوال المدنية والإحصاءات الحيوية التي تعمل بكامل طاقتها بجانب الشهادات الطبية الصحيحة لكل سبب من أسباب الوفاة هي الطريقة الوحيدة المضمون استمرارها كي ندرك سرعة تضرر السكان بالأمراض وعوامل خطورة الأمراض وأي الفئات السكانية التي تتأثر بها.

ويستخدم نظام تسجيل الأحوال المدنية، في معظم البلدان، لتسجيل الإحصاءات المتعلقة "بالأحداث الحيوية"، مثل الولادات، والوفيات، والزواج، والطلاق، ووفيات الأجنة. وهذا النظام الإداري الحكومي ينشئ لكل حدث منها سجلًا دائمًا.
تسجيل الأحوال المدنية والإحصاءات الحيوية
تستخدم نظم تسجيل الأحوال المدنية لتسجيل الوقائع الحيوية، وتشمل المواليد والوفيات والزيجات. ومن الممكن أن تكون بمثابة المصدر الرئيسي للإحصاءات الحيوية الوطنية. لكن نظم الإحصاءات الحيوية وتسجيل الأحوال المدنية ضعيفة أو غير موجودة في كثير من البلدان النامية؛ ومن ثم فإن الإحصاءات الديمغرافية، وإحصاءات الخصوبة والوفيات الرئيسية غير متوفرة باستمرار ولا تغطي قطاعات كبيرة من السكان.
