المستدمية النزلية من النمط B هي جرثومة تسبب ـ عادة ـ التهاب السحايا الجرثومي والالتهاب الرئوي الجرثومي، وهي السبب الرئيسي لأمراض غَزْوية أخرى؛ مثل التهاب المفاصل الإنتاني (عدوى مفصلية) والتهاب لسان المزمار (عدوى لسان المزمار وتورمه) والتهاب النسيج الضام الرخو الخلالي cellulitis (عدوى جلدية تتقدم بسرعة، وتشمل ـ عادة ـ الوجه والرأس والعنق). وإن التهاب التامور (عدوى الكيس الذي يغطي القلب) والتهاب العظم والنقي (عدوى العظام) هي أشكال أقل شيوعاً للمرض الغزْوي.
