يتم الاحتفال بيوم الصحة العالمي في 7 أبريل (نيسان) في ذكرى تأسيس منظمة الصحة العالمية لغرض زيادة الوعي كل سنة بقضية صحية رئيسية على الصعيد العالمي، وموضوع هذه السنة يدور حول "التشيخ والصحة". فمع التزايد السريع لعدد المسنين في العالم، يتوقع أن يمثل المسنون نسبة 22% من سكان العالم (حوالي 2 بليون) بحلول العام 2050. وسيعيش عدد كبير من البشر ليشاهدوا أحفادهم وهم ينمون.
تشكل هذه الظاهرة، الإيجابية في جوهرها، تحديات كثيرة للأشخاص، والمجتمعات ولصناعي السياسات. حيث يتمثل التحدي في خلق بيئات مصادقة للمسنين في كل أنحاء العالم.
