The Eastern Mediterranean Region is experiencing one of the fastest growing epidemic in the world and the lowest rate of access to treatment with anti-retroviral medications. Only 13% of people living with HIV who need treatment are actually receiving it. One of the main reasons for this treatment crisis is that less than 5% of the population of the region knows its HIV status
The regional World AIDS Day campaign 2012 is aimed at promoting HIV testing and counselling as a key service to increase access to HIV treatment and care.
