What we have achieved
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions of people worldwide. Islamic Republic of Iran has had the highest rates of COVID-19 cases in WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region.
The WHO country office, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education:
- supported the procurement of COVID-19 vaccine under the COVAX Facility;
- supported the development of the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan;
- supported the provision of PCR and ELISA test kits;
- supported Islamic Republic of Iran’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Project (ICERP);
- supported studies and research on COVID-19 sero epidemiology and vaccine efficacy;
- provided technical support for the COVID-19 response in the areas of laboratory and diagnostics; and
- analysed the gaps and enhanced the vaccine cold chain.
What is next
- Promoting good laboratory practice in public health molecular laboratories.
- Providing virtual training for public molecular laboratories.
- Strengthening COVID-19 vaccine production research and international scientific collaboration.
