Libya has signed the Vision 2020 declaration - a global initiative launched in 1999 jointly by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020 - however, a national plan for implementation has not been developed.
Elimination of avoidable blindness remains a challenge for the country. Disease control strategies, human resources and strengthening of related infrastructure along with sufficient funding are required to tackle this issue.
