A one-week WHO mission from 30 June to 5 July 2012 was conducted to assess the situation of health care waste management in Oman. A rapid assessment was carried out which involved site visits to health institutions at the national and regional levels and meetings with key stakeholders. The mission proposed a framework for the development of a health care waste management programme, including establishing a national policy and guidelines, developing a plan for the improvement of health care waste management at the national and facility levels, and developing human resources development plan, including the establishment of guidelines and related training materials.
