Country activities
Countries are at different stages in their adoption of the WHO patient safety programme but awareness of the importance of patient safety has increased in all countries of the Region. Research has been conducted in some countries to determine the magnitude of the problem and training workshops held in other countries. Egypt, Jordan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Tunisia and Yemen have all adopted the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative.
In the Eastern Mediterranean Region 14 countries have now signed a pledge to address health care-associated infections and many hospitals have adopted the WHO safe surgery checklist.
