"Global Hand Hygiene Day is celebrated each year on 5 May. WHO encourages each health care facility, institution, organization to join this initiative that represents an opportunity to raise the awareness of health care professionals to the importance of hand hygiene to reduce the incidence of health care-associated infections.

This year the theme of Hand Hygiene Day is antimicrobial resistance with the following call to action: "No action today; no cure tomorrow - make the 5 moments for hand hygiene part of protecting your patients from resistant germs".
