Noncommunicable diseases
Scaling up implementation of the UN Political Declaration on NCDs
WHO is working with countries to identify the main challenges impeding progress in implementing the political declaration on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases. Optimal solutions have been identified to facilitate country progress in meeting the time-bound commitments for 2015 and 2016.
By 2015, countries are to set national targets, and develop/strengthen national multisectoral action plans.
By 2016, countries are to reduce risk factors, and strengthen health systems.
Limited time remains before the next global comprehensive review of progress planned to take place in 2018. Accelerating action on the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, guided by the regional framework for action is critical.
