Meeting on universal health coverage, 8–10 November 2011

The first meeting on achieving universal health coverage in Islamic Republic of Iran was held in Tehran from 8 to 10 November 2011.

The aim of this meeting was to look at health coverage in terms of financial coverage (cost coverage), population coverage (breadth) and services coverage (depth and quality).

The meeting was attended by WHO staff and consultants, Iranian experts and health policy-makers at national and provincial levels who discussed: analysis of health and medical insurance, challenges and requirements of health insurance, implementation of the family physician programme, and consensus on policies and strategies for universal health coverage.

Improved policy responses in the aforementioned areas were provided to the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
