21 September 2013 – Dr Ala Alwan, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, visited Pakistan from 
Dr Ala Alwan, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, visits Dar Ul Uloum Haqannia, Akura Khatak and PeshawarSeptember 19 to 21, 2013. During his short visit, Dr Alwan met politicians, dignitaries, Ambassadors of United Arab Emirates and Iraq and religious leaders to garner support for the polio eradication initiative in Pakistan.
The purpose of Dr Alwan’s two-day visit to Pakistan was to assess the current situation of polio eradication through meetings with public health leaders, national and provincial government and to support national action in this area.
