27 November 2013 – Qatar released its fact sheet from the first Global Adult Tobacco Survey in a press conference organized by the Supreme Council of Health. The Global Adult Tobacco Survey is a global standard for systematically monitoring adult tobacco use (smoking and smokeless) and tracking key tobacco control indicators. It is a nationally representative survey, using a consistent and standard protocol across countries.
The results show that:
Overall, 12.1%
of adults smoke tobacco in Qatar
Nearly 10%
of adults are current cigarette smokers
Overall, 3.4%
of adults are current shisha smokers
Overall, 0.7%
of adults currently use smokeless tobacco products
Nearly 3%
of adults use electronic cigarettes in Qatar
Nearly 26%
are exposed to tobacco smoke in restaurants
