Sixty-second session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, Kuwait, 5-8 October 2015Health ministers and high-level representatives of the 22 countries and territories of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, partner organizations and civil society, will take part in the 62nd session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, in Kuwait City, Kuwait, from 5 to 8 October 2015.

Key technical health issues on this year's agenda will include:

global health security, with special emphasis on MERS-Cov and H5N1

the sustainable development goals in the post-2015 development agenda

a review of medical education, including the challenges, priorities and a framework for action

scaling up mental health care

assessing and monitoring the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005)

the global vaccine action plan

prevention and control of viral hepatitis.

The 4-day programme will also include progress reports on: polio eradication; emergency preparedness and response; prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases; achieving national core capacities for the deadline for implementation of the IHR; universal health coverage; regional strategy on health and the environment; the initiative on saving the lives of mothers and children; and regional strategy for the improvement of civil registration and vital statistics systems 2014–2019. These reports provide updates on implementation of resolutions approved by the Regional Committee at previous sessions. Technical briefings and ministerial lunches offer additional opportunities to discuss technical agenda items.
