International Health Regulations (IHR 2005)
The Ministry of Health, Oman is actively working to solidly establish implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005), an important activity because of Oman’s strategic geographic location and population dynamics. A recent WHO/European Union/Ministry of Health project helped build national IHR core capacity for surveillance and response, including establishing a national course on outbreak investigation and strengthening the diagnostic and bio-safety capacities of the Central Public Health Laboratory.

Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)
Oman ratified the FCTC in 2005 and has taken steps to pass tobacco control laws. An intersectoral committee to address tobacco control activities was formed in 2007 and promotional materials for tobacco control were developed. Currently, all tobacco control rules and regulations, including a workplace ban on smoking and ban on smoking in public buildings, are integrated within subnational laws. A comprehensive tobacco control law is under consideration. Numerous studies have been conducted on tobacco use.
