11 December 2012, Erbil – The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with WHO, held a 10-day training workshop aiming to provide a solid foundation of theory, principles and clinical practice to build knowledge and enhance capacities of the participants to repair laboratory equipment more effectively.
The laboratory plays a key role to aid medical staff in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, the medical laboratory department includes facilities, personnel, and equipment within the hospital or public/private location and Personnel included pathologists, doctors, clinical specialists, laboratory technologist and laboratory technicians.
Fourteen biomedical engineering staff attended the course and were trained on skills related to describing the role in repairing equipments in the laboratory environment, handling and repairing tools such as (troubleshoot cell counters and haemoglobin meters, microscopes, centrifuge). They learnt the correct way to prevent the spread of disease in the hospital and be able to choose the appropriate PPD for the environment they are working in.
This activity came as part of technical support to strengthen the capacities of Ministry of Health staff to maintain medical equipment and provide hands-on service skills for safety control and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipments with the aim of ensuring safe services provided to the patient.
