This online course will help its participants make use of the comprehensive package of guidance, developed by the World Health Organization, to support countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) in their efforts to integrate the management of mental, neurological and substance use disorders into primary health care (PHC). The main goal of the course is to inform the assessment, planning implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of the integration of mental health in PHC. Its main objectives include improving knowledge and understanding of the rationale for integrating mental health in PHC and acquiring a working knowledge of the contents of the guidance and an understanding of how to use it.

Implementing the mental health Gap Action Programme intervention guide: a job aid for non-specialist health professionals

Publication date: 2021

The objective of the Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) is to scale up care and services using evidence-based interventions for prevention and management of priority mental neurological and substance use conditions. This operational guide has been developed to help non-specialists conduct standardized clinical interviews and examinations and deliver interventions as outlined in the mhGAP Intervention Guide version 2 for mental, neurological and substance use disorders in non-specialist health settings. A further objective of this guide is to help health care providers remain patient-centred and protect the rights of the patient, emphasizing issues such as the need for patient privacy and confidentiality and providing tips for health care providers in clinical scenarios in which vital information may need to be shared with others.

Mental health in schools training package

This mental health in schools training package, developed by the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, will enable educators to better support the mental health needs of their students and to take practical steps that are implementable in school settings. It is intended for those involved in the educational process, including teachers, school administrators, nurses, social workers and school counsellors, in addition to educational policymakers and nongovernmental organizations. This training package consists of five key components that should be used together and includes: a manual, lecture outlines, lectures/slide presentations and handouts, as well as an implementation and evaluation plan.
