WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, with the Executive Board of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, conducted a subregional training workshop on cancer registration in collaboration with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). This workshop focused on the adoption of developing cancer registries in Member States, scheduled to take place in Cairo, from 6 to 9 December 2009. One objective of the workshop was to support countries to establish/update their cancer registry.
The main objectives were to:
provide an introduction to the methodology of cancer registration
enhance the skills of cancer registry staff
emphasize the importance of data quality control
provide hands on training on cancer registration software.
Focal points from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Islamic Republic of Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, as well as representatives from IARC in France and A. Fritz and Associates LCC in USA, and WHO staff participated in this workshop.
