Consultative meeting on building a regional noncommunicable disease research agenda and enhancing implementation of NCD action plan, 11–13 December 2011

WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean held a consultative meeting on building a regional noncommunicable disease research agenda and improving implementation of the noncommunicable disease action plan in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 11 to 13 December 2011.

The objectives of the meeting were to:

introduce the noncommunicable disease research agenda in the context of the regional noncommunicable disease action plan

establish regional research priorities to address the key challenges that hinder effective implementation of noncommunicable disease prevention and control programmes

develop approaches to using research evidence to implement noncommunicable disease prevention and control plans and policies.

The consultation provided an opportunity to develop a priority list of research in the four main noncommunicable diseases (cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, type 2 diabetes and common cancers). The research priorities so identified, will steer the noncommunicable disease-related health research agenda in the Region for the coming years.
