The WHO Polio Eradication Programme announces the passing away of Dr Ali Jaffer Mohamed, Chairman of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Commission for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication, on 14 May 2013.
Dr Jaffer had formerly been Advisor for Health Affairs and the Director General of Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health of Oman. He served WHO in many areas, contributing variously as a member and as Chair to a wide range of committees, including the WHO Executive Board, World Health Assembly, the Regional Technical Advisory Group for Immunization and the WHO Regional Commission for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication.
He will be remembered not only for his vast and resourceful knowledge, experience and wisdom but for his tireless work in improving global health.
