30 June 2016 – As part of the United Nations interagency convoy on 29 June 2016, WHO delivered 43 000 lifesaving treatments to people in need in Arbeen and Zamalka, East Ghouta.
Treatment courses delivered include lifesaving and noncommunicable disease medicines, anaesthetics, oral rehydration solution, water purification and pneumonia kits.
This is the first time an interagency convoy has reached these locations since November 2012.
The delivery is also significant as Arbin and Zamalka were the last 2 out of 18 besieged areas yet to be reached this year.
In 2016 WHO has provided over 178 000 treatments to different besieged locations in East Ghouta.
WHO continues to call on all parties to the conflict to lift the siege on all besieged locations and to allow unhindered and sustained access to humanitarian aid workers to provide lifesaving aid to populations in need.
